[ He follows with an appearance of casual unconcern, until she dips into an appropriate corner, and folds his tall frame carefully to remain well hidden from sight, and lowers his voice appropriately. ]

You mentioned that it seemed as though Deimar forgot about Cle-Florens. [ He pauses, and there is a seriousness to his face that seems far more intent than his usual jovial expression. ] Can you explain to me what you mean by that, exactly? Why forgot.

Because it is highly unusual.

[ Stephanivien's brows furrow, and his lips flatten into a straight line. ]

Even if he is far less the man we believed him—despite his focus and priority having been the evacuation of his people, and keeping Rathakku from whatever it is that monstrosity wants—that someone as good as he is at the political game would forget a major piece on his chessboard does not make sense.

[ He tilts his head, and begins to lay out his thoughts slowly, constructing the shape of them a he goes. ]

I was heir to one of the four High Houses of a city-state trapped in a war not-unlike this one, though ours had been going one thousand years and more. Even as someone who had no desire for the political machinations, there was not a moment I was unaware of the positions of my younger siblings. Both for my concern for them, and also the knowledge of them as targets for political capital.

[ Cle-Florens has capital. A great deal of capital, given that even she is aware of it. Her symbol as a potential martyr. Her position as a tie in to the royal family, where the waves of who has the right to rule still have not quite settled. ]

I had four siblings, two of whom were often stationed farther afield. Deimar has two. Even my fellow heir of a different High House was aware of his illegitimate younger brother's doings.

Even if he lacked all familial feeling, I cannot imagine him unaware of the political mess that should come from Cle-Florens' position, or her martyrdom.

[ He sighs, and straightens. ]

Which leaves me with... a handful of theories, loosely woven united, but almost grasping at straws.
